BVMS PhD DECVN MRCVS RCVS and European Specialist in Veterinary Neurology
After graduating from the University of Glasgow in 1991 with distinction in both Veterinary Medicine and Surgery, Dr Clare Rusbridge completed an internship at the University of Pennsylvania then spent some time in general practice in Cambridgeshire. After a BSAVA/Petsavers Residency in Neurology at the Royal Veterinary College she became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Neurology in 1996 and gained RCVS Specialist status in 1999. She was awarded a PhD from Utrecht University in February 2007 for her thesis on Chiari-like malformation & Syringomyelia. Since August 1997 she has operated a Neurology Referral and MRI service at the Stone Lion Veterinary Centre in Wimbledon, London UK. Clare has published extensively on syringomyelia producing book chapters and electronic resources in addition to peer reviewed scientific papers. She continues clinical research into the genetics, management and pathogenesis of the condition. Her other professional interests include other causes of neuropathic pain (in particular feline orofacial pain syndrome), epilepsy, feline neurology, and inherited diseases.
Ophthalmology
Sally Turner qualified from the University of Cambridge in 1991. She spent two years in small animal practice before taking up a Residency in Comparative Ophthalmology as GDBA Fellow at the Animal Health Trust, Newmarket. She gained her Certificate in Ophthalmology in 1994 and then the Diploma in 1997. She is an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Veterinary Ophthalmology and currently works at both Stone Lion and Mandeville Veterinary Hospitals. Sally lectures regularly to both veterinary surgeons and nurses and is the author of two books on veterinary ophthalmology. What happens..
What happens when my animal is referred?
1) Reception team receive details from general veterinary practitioner (Click here for FaxBack referral form - Vets Only)
2) Then reception team contact client directly and book appointment (Click here for how to find us)
3) You and your pet have a 1 hour consultation which allows time to discuss your pet’s problem, to perform a general and neurological examination and then discuss the various diagnostic and treatment options and prognosis.
4) If diagnostic procedures are required then we endeavour to perform these on the day of the consultation - e.g. for an MRI your pet may be admitted as an outpatient for a few hours going home when fully recovered from the anaesthetic
5) Animals admitted for spinal or brain surgeries typically have a 3-14 day stay (depending on complexity and condition)
